Every once in a while, you simply find yourself needing a bit of change in your life. Waking up to the same four walls every day, and living in the same old scenery can get to be a yawning bore and who needs that after all? Not I, let me assure you.

On top of this, some things in the home just don’t age as well as others, and need to be replaced or upgraded at some point. If your kitchen is in serious need of an upgrade, try taking on some of these easy DIY projects to inject new life into an old room.

  1. Add New Exciting Color to Your Digs.

Nothing transforms a room faster than a new coat of paint. The colors that surround us have a significant effect on our moods and feelings.

When you become too accustomed to a traditional color scheme, it starts to become boring—this is why many city dwellers find such relief in going out into nature to enjoy the richness of God's creation. Why not let the natural world inspire a new color scheme for your kitchen?

Vibrant warm hues can add energy to any space, large or small, or you might want to enhance your walls in cooler tones for a more calming and tranquil effect. The bottom line is do what you like; express thyself, pilgrim. Unless, of course, you are planning on selling your home. Then, unfortunately, you need to go bland.

  2. Revamp Your Kitchen Cabinets.

No kitchen is complete without cabinets. There are just so many things in the kitchen that need homes, from plates and glasses to food and drinks.

A great way to upgrade your kitchen storage space is to install new cabinets or build a walk-in food and storage pantry. Your current set up may have become dull with age, which is not uncommon. It can be difficult to see just how much furniture degrades when you have your eyes on it every day.

Installing new cabinets will give your kitchen a clean and modern look, and can also create more storage space. To save more money, you might choose to re-face your existing cabinets.

  3. Install a Kitchen Island

If you have enough room in your kitchen, installing an island is one of the best upgrades you can make. You never really utilize very much floor space in a kitchen—it’s not a ballroom, after all.

An island in the center has many benefits. It will give you additional work space when you need to cook, lots of new storage room in the lower cabinets, and a great buffet area for parties. An island can do wonders for upgrading and transforming your kitchen space and is a great investment in your home equity.

  4. Replace Old Outdated Faucets.

Kitchen fixtures and utilities don’t last forever, and that goes double for faucets. Even though your faucets may not take as much regular abuse as your stove or oven, they need attention as well.

Hard water can create mineral buildup both on both the outside and inside of your faucets, creating unsightly mess and impure water. It's never a bad idea to invest in a water softening system. Choose from an array of sleek new designs and give your kitchen a makeover with all new faucets.

  5. Choose and Install a New Floor Covering.

From the warm Tampa real estate market to the chilliest corners of Seattle, kitchen floors are some of the most neglected spots in houses everywhere.

If you’re like millions of other people, you may be standing on decades-old linoleum tile when you walk into your kitchen. Tear up the old fashioned floor coverings and try something new.

There are dozens of new tiling options available, or you might want to consider hardwood flooring. Upgrade your floors and you’ll be happy to look down every time you enter your kitchen. Try any or all of these 5 do-it-yourself kitchen upgrades today.
