Vintage Prangs Valentine Day Card

Are you looking for the best Valentine’s Day present ideas? Shake it up; why gift her with a dozen red roses or a heart-shaped box of chocolates with something totally unexpected and really useful? Why not a bath remodel project?

The truth is that traditional Valentine’s gifts may please your valentine for a day, but jumping into a DIY home renovation, like a kitchen remodel, or a bathroom face lift will be remembered for a long time in the future.

How About a Mini Bathroom Remodel?

This project to do and won’t break the bank. Let’s look at some ideas.

  • Try giving the bathroom floor new life. Is your present flooring material boring? There’s no reason to rip out the linoleum, tile, or vinyl; simply fit and throw down a covering of seagrass rugs. Seagrass is rising in popularity for bath floors.

Why? Because it’s quick to install, it matches just about any decor, it’s a green, sustainable material, and it’s so comfortable so it’ll pamper your valentine’s feet.

  • Change contractor-grade bathroom fixtures like towel racks, toilet paper dispenser, and toilet seat from to contemporary upgrades.
  • If your shower surround ceramic wall tile is outdated, why not give it a new look? There’s no reason to demo the old material out and replace it. Just clean it with TSP (TriSodium Phosphate) and apply tile tattoos. They’re reasonably priced and easy to install. No tools required.

Update the Flooring

It’s not required to take up the existing floor and replace it, although that’s certainly a possibility. Here are some alternatives:

  • Refinish parquet tiles or your hardwood floors. Just strip it and apply a fresh coat of wax and rent a commercial floor buffer to make it shine as long as they aren’t in that bad shape.
  • Spread out an area rug or two and runners in hallways if your home or condo has hardwood or laminate flooring.
  • Revitalize your wall to wall carpeting with a top-quality carpet shampooer/steamer. This takes less than a day to do, but makes an huge difference, especially for anyone afflicted with allergies.
  • Consider installing new baseboards or give the existing ones a paint job. Usually, contractor-grade baseboards are very pedestrian. They serve their intended purpose, but just don’t add any pizzazz. It’s easy to give plain ones some style by adding quarter round or shoe molding at the floor of the existing baseboard and repainting it all.

How About a Wall Improvement an Interior Painting and Project?

Wall paint picks up grime over time from hand prints, etc. and usually the original color is contractor white satin or semi-gloss. A custom painting job really dresses up the joint.

  • Try a computer interior design software program like SeeItYourWay. This will allow to play with different color schemes and really see how it will really look in your living room, bathroom or kitchen area.
  • So get rid of those boring colors. Head on over to Home Depot or Lowes and have a look at the paint chips from Behr, Glidden, or Sherwin Williams. There are some great combinations.
  • Think about installing crown molding at the ceiling or chair rails to your walls. These are decorative touches that says “style and class.” Using warm natural wood finish like Danish oil or polyurethane instead of paint sets the wall off.

But Don’t Forget the Romantic Valentine Day Gift

Even after giving one of these DIY Valentine gifts, still plan something special like a candlelight dinner. Cover all your bases!
