I finally finished building and installing the recessed (or inset) medicine cabinet in the bathroom I’ve been remodeling. This is one more step in the Perpetual Remodeling Syndrome project. (Those of you that have been following it know what I’m talking about.)
This project was a lot of fun to do. It was time consuming because there was a lot of glue and wait, finish and wait time. But hey, that’s what custom furniture and in this case, bathroom fixtures, are all about, right?
If you’ve got a hankering to build one yourself, I took good notes and pictures as I went along and posted the recessed medicine cabinet plans yesterday.
One of the things that makes this project accessible to those woodworkers just getting into the hobby, is that it’s done without any fancy joinery techniques. No dovetail joints or mortise and tenon required. I would suggest a good benchtop table saw.
You’ll need four picture frame clamps (or corner frame clamps). But they are inexpensive and you’ll find yourself using them more often than you might think, often for repair jobs.
Not only was this project fun, but doing it myself I saved a bundle of cash. And that’s a good thing in this down economy, or recession, if you prefer.
Since I’m done with this project, it’s time to ramp up for the next one.
