I want an emergency generator

Postby Buzzsaw on Fri Jun 13, 2008 3:27 pm

With hurricane season closing in, I've been thinking of getting an emergency generator. What size, brand is good? I want to atleast have capacity for the AC and fridge.

I don't know much about capacity, but I can tell you that this is the right time to buy one. The more we get into hurricane season, the harder they are to find!

The two things you have to consider are running load and the surge wattage. More info here: http://home-electrical.suite101.com/art ... tor_basics

You have to decide if you want it to run on natural gas, diesel, or gasoline. Gasoline and diesel have a limited lifespan and natural gas lines frequently go out in a natural disaster. Pick your poison.
